2-day WRAP for health and care staff

WRAP is an evidence-based approach to daily living, that supports us in maintaining wellness through life's challenges. It involves creating a personalised plan that identifies what you need to do to support your mental health and wellbeing, along with strategies and tools to utilise during difficult times

It is a tool that people can use to feel more in control of their wellbeing, mental health and personal recovery.

'WRAP can help you to create a snapshot of yourself at different stages of being well, to unwell and through peer discussion, and learning from the course create action plans to better support yourself at these different points.'

WRAP courses are led by two or more trained facilitators who have their own WRAP plan and use it to support their own mental health and wellbeing.

Wellness Recovery Action Plan® was developed by Mary-Ellen Copeland, an author, educator and mental health advocate.  In Leeds Recovery College our lead WRAP facilitators are accredited to deliver the course content in line with WRAP’s original values and ethics

We asked some of our 2-day delegates what they would say to others to help describe this course:

'WRAP can be a practical tool for personal growth and vital knowledge to help others, the sections of WRAP can apply to anyone, and I would recommend it for everyone particularly NHS staff’.

'It encourages you to reflect on yourself and recognise signs and behaviours in yourself.  Having the time to reflect means you learn so much more. I can help my service users and colleagues with these techniques.'

'The 2-day WRAP has surpassed my expectations I am leaving with friends, a WRAP plan to help me when I’m struggling, lots of tools and strategies to help me and more self-belief and confidence.'

'It's been good to see everything written down and immerse myself in a safe space to reflect and think ahead. The facilitators were lovely and supportive. I've already been telling people about the course.'

Here's what you can expect to explore in our 2-day WRAP:

Day 1:

  • Introduction to WRAP and the key recovery concepts.

  • The wellness toolbox.

  • What am I like when things are going well?

  • My daily plan.

 Day 2:

  • Identifying stressors, triggers and action planning.

  • Early warning signs and action planning.

  • When things are getting worse and action planning.

  • Introduction to crisis planning.

  • WRAP recap and course celebration.

This course aims to support you in thinking about how you may choose to develop a WRAP plan for your own wellbeing.  While elements of this course, may be useful for your work with other people, the focus will be on how WRAP may work for you, and your life.

Our 2-day WRAP workshop provides an overview of the essential components of the Wellness Recovery Action Plan. Additionally, we offer an 8-10 week community WRAP course. The key distinction between the two formats lies in the amount of time allocated to each section of the WRAP plan, allowing participants in the longer course to engage and collaborate more extensively over several weeks. Both the 2-day workshop and the 8-10 week course cover the same WRAP curriculum.

Prerequisites

It's essential to consider your mental health and emotional wellbeing before booking on to this course.  It is important to note that undertaking a WRAP may not be the best course of action during times of crisis or when experiencing significant difficulties with your mental health. In such moments, it is essential to prioritise immediate support and care, to navigate through the challenges you are facing.
