Mindfulness Lite
This course provides an introduction to the principals of mindfulness, and mediation.
Description
Mindfulness involves paying close attention to our thoughts, feelings, and actions, both emotionally and physically. The intention is not to change anything, but to recognise or experience and relate to it.
This includes learning to let go of our need to have things a certain way, and to have compassion for ourselves.
Mindfulness can help you feel more able to cope with life’s challenges and it can be useful if you’re looking to bring more meaning to your life or relationships. It can enable you to recognise things which happen, that then trigger unhelpful feelings -so you’re better prepared to deal with them.
Over this 4 week course we will:
Introduce Mindfulness and how it might help you in your life.
Give you opportunity to try out different Mindfulness practices including using our senses, being with nature, movement practices and being with our breath and body.
Exchange ideas and responses to different Mindfulness practices.
Give you a taster of what happens on the full 8 week course which Recovery College also runs.
This course is for anyone wanting to have a taster of Mindfulness practices. It is particularly suitable for those who aren’t sure if they are ready for the full 8 week course and intended as an easier course to help you dip your toe in the water!
It can also be a refresher for people who have already done a course with us before but we ask that you wait until less than 2 weeks before the course to book a place, to make space for those who haven't done it before.
Prerequisites
Is this course for me?
It’s important to consider your mental health and emotional wellbeing before booking onto this course, as mindfulness practices can sometimes bring up challenging emotions or memories.
Being aware of this possibility can help you prepare. If you have recently experienced a crisis or trauma, or are currently struggling with negative thoughts, including thoughts of self-harm or suicide, this course may not be the right option for you at this time.
If you have any concerns, you will have the opportunity to discuss them with our lead facilitator before the course begins.
To get the most from the course, we encourage you to practise the mindfulness techniques at home between sessions. Mindfulness is a skill that develops over time and benefits from regular practice, so it’s important that you’re able to set aside some time for this.
The course builds week by week, introducing new practices as you go. It’s helpful to come with realistic expectations, as it’s unlikely you’ll notice immediate results. Developing confidence and benefit from mindfulness takes time.
