Gender, identity & Health

Your gender identity is the gender you personally recognise and feel yourself to be, forming an essential aspect of your internal sense of self. It plays a significant role in shaping who you are.

Description

Identifying as a transgender, non-binary, or outside the traditional gender binary does not inherently lead to mental health challenges. However, a lack of understanding and acceptance can foster discrimination and transphobia.

Your gender identity is the gender you personally recognise and feel yourself to be, forming an essential aspect of your internal sense of self. It plays a significant role in shaping who you are. Trans and non-binary people often face significant social stigma and discrimination, and there can be a lack of accessible information and understanding. In this workshop, we aim to provide a supportive environment for individuals of all gender identities to learn more.

We will explore the language, history and culture related to transgender and non-binary identities, encouraging respectful dialogue and increasing understanding.

In this interactive, discussion-based session, we will:

  • Define key terms and concepts within the transgender and non-binary communities.

  • Explore the effects of discrimination on emotional and physical wellbeing.

  • Discuss local resources and support available to help address health and social inequalities.
