Wellness Recovery Action Plan® (WRAP): Caring for Caregivers (8 sessions, alternate weeks)

WRAP is a tool for supporting wellbeing and self-care, and in this course we’ll be focusing on how a WRAP can support unpaid carers.

Description

We understand that many caregivers are aware of the concept of self-care and often know how to practice it, but struggle to find the time, and the methods presented for self-care may seem unrealistic for their situations.

In this course, we will provide a flexible environment to explore to explore the Wellness Recovery Action Plan® (WRAP), allowing the opportunity for caregivers to connect with one another, sharing insights, strategies and discussions about the realities of their lives.

WRAP is an evidence-based approach to daily living, that supports us in maintaining wellness through life's challenges. It involves creating a personalised plan that identifies what you need to do to support your mental health and wellbeing, along with strategies and tools to utilise during difficult times.

It is a tool that people can use to feel more in control of their wellbeing and personal recovery.

‘WRAP can help you to create a snapshot of yourself at different stages of being well, to unwell and through peer discussion, and learning from the course create action plans to better support yourself at these different points.’

WRAP courses are led by two or more trained facilitators who have their own WRAP plan and use it to support their own mental health and wellbeing.

Wellness Recovery Action Plan® was developed by Mary-Ellen Copeland, an author, educator and mental health advocate.  In Leeds Recovery College our lead WRAP facilitators are accredited to deliver the course content in line with WRAP’s original values and ethics.

'It will make you think, you maybe uncomfortable at times - but the overall benefits are well worth it. Great to meet other carers and feel that you are not alone.'

'It helped me to understand that I am important. That there is no need to feel guilty when I have time to myself. To recognise the need for help.'

'It is very informative and I have learned things about myself that I had lost. So it is worth coming to find yourself again. Thank you to all involved.'
