Confidence and self-esteem

Confidence is believing in yourself – believing that you are capable of completing tasks and reaching goals. Knowing that you have skills and positive qualities, and are able to face the challenges that may come your way.

Description

When we cultivate confidence, we’re more likely to feel equipped to make choices that are good for us and our health and wellbeing.

Confidence can fluctuate throughout our lives and may vary across different areas of our lives too, for example, you may be more confident in speaking with people face to face or in talking on the phone, we may be more confident in meetings at work, in a course or study environment or beingin more informal social situations.

Many things can influence our confidence levels, and our self-esteem – the way we perceive and feel about ourselves – can be a big influence.

When self-esteem is low, we tend to focus on our mistakes and shortcomings, often overlooking the positive contributions we make. This course uses discussions and practical exercises to help develop a different perspective on your identity, recognising your unique qualities, skills and talents.

In this course we will;

  • Explore our personal thoughts on confidence, and the characteristics of a ‘confident person’

  • Identify factors that influence self-esteem and confidence levels in the different areas of our lives.

  • Take part in exercises which recognise and appreciate our personal strengths and abilities.

  • Participate in activities which explore tools and strategies we can use to build our personal confidence levels.
