Living with an eating disorder

Sharing the personal recovery journeys, to raise awareness and understanding of the challenges faced by individuals who have an eating disorder.

Description

Anorexia Nervosa (often called anorexia) is an eating disorder and serious mental health conditionLike many eating disorders, it holds a great deal of stigma and is a difficult subject to discuss.

Leeds Recovery College would like to introduce Helen and Claire’s workshop, ‘Living with an eating disorder’ in which they share their personal experiences, highlighting both the commonalities and differences in their journeys with the illness and their ongoing recovery.

Living with any mental health condition can be isolating and frightening. However, since their discharge from treatment, Helen and Claire have connected with each other and are now committed to making a difference. Through these workshops, they aim to provide valuable insights into eating disorders and convey the crucial message that no one is alone in their struggles.

This course welcomes everyone, regardless of personal experience with eating disorders. The content will resonate with both those who have lived experience and those who support individuals with eating disorders, whether in personal or professional contexts.

The workshop aims to:

  • Enhance awareness and understanding of eating disorders

  • Introduce different tools that may help support people affected by eating disorders

  • Explore the impact of eating disorderson daily life

  • Discuss the needs of individuals from their loved ones and practitioners, along with practical tasks related to this.
